Author Sneed B. Collard III has written more than eighty award-winning books for young people, including early nonfiction picture books, in-depth cutting edge science books, and middle-grade and YA thrillers. His books have won dozens of honors and are regular features in Junior Library Guild
catalogs and CBC/NSTA Outstanding Science Trade Books lists. In 2006, he received the Washington Post-Children’s Book Guild Nonfiction Award for his body of work.
In 2010, as the Great Recession and eBook hysteria brought traditional publishing to a virtual standstill, Sneed launched Bucking Horse Books. In contrast to the get-rich-quick mentality that dominates big publishing, Bucking Horse Books publishes quality, original titles that represent American values and open children to the wonder of existence. These books have reached wide audiences and received honors such as the Green Prize for Sustainable Literature, the High Plains Book Award, the Eureka Nonfiction Book Award, the American Association for the Advancement of Science-Subaru Prize for Excellence in Science Books (finalist) and the Green Earth Book Award (finalist).
In addition to writing children’s books, Sneed is a popular speaker, travelling around the country and overseas to visit schools, conduct writers’ workshops, and give professional development seminars. Bucking Horse Books are written, designed, edited, and manufactured in the USA.
